Good Places to Get Signatures

One of the top questions we get is "Where are good places to get signatures?"  That answer to that is bsed largely upon whether you want to limit circulating to people you know or expand it to the virtually limitless potential among people you may not know or may not know well.

Suggestions from Top Circulators

This is a new section we added to the very top of page with suggestions from top circulators.  Our first entry comes from Frank Marciniak who collected over 2000 signatures during the Ament recall and has already collected several hundred for the trolley direct legislation.  It's loaded with locations, addresses, days and times, phone numbers, etc.!

Getting the Signatures of People You Know

Although perhaps limited in number the easiest signatures to get are from people you know either very well such as friends, relatives and coworkers or people you may be acquainted with such as neighbors or through clubs, school, or sports.  Simply carry a petition with you and ask for their signature.  Good places to consider include:

  • Parties and other social functions
  • Family dinners
  • Your workplace (if permitted)
  • Church services and other functions
  • Going door to door in your neighborhood

Getting the Signatures of People You May Not Know

For unlimited signature gathering potential consider asking for signatures anywhere here is a high concentration of people.  Virtually every circulator we speak with tells us that people are eager to sign because the trolley is considered such a senseless and irresponisble waste of tax money and citizens must be given the opportunity to have their voices heard.  Good places to get signatures are:

INNOVATIVE IDEAS

We are always surprised at the new and innovative ways circulators find to collect signatures.  Here are a few.  Feel free to send in your ideas to crg@crgnetwork.com and we'll publish them here.

While at gas station, wait for people to start pumping gas.  They have nothing else to do and nowhere else to go while pumping).

One person said they collected sigantures while riding crowded buses.

Another person showed up at elementary schools 20 minutes before school was out and approached parents parked and waiting for their children (again, not much else to do or places to go).

IMPORTANT RULES

  • Always ask permission before circulating on private property.
  • Be respectful of people and property both public and private
  • Be polite, don't argue, or waste your time trying to convince people who do not wish to sign.  You are only wasting your own time and missing the 80% of people who DO want to sign.
  • If asked to leave a place you believe to be public, ask under what authority you are being removed you or ask to speak with a manager.
  • If a police officer arrives do not argue and obey all their commands.  If you are commanded to leave, do so.  Get the badge number of the officer and report the incident to CRG at crg@crgnetwork.com.
